Big Idea(s):
Weather affects our everyday lives. There are many factors that influence the weather, but one of the major contributors is the water cycle. Before exploring weather over time (climate), students should have a preliminary understanding of the water cycle and how water changes form. This is a background building lesson and the concept should not be taken to mastery.

Lesson Body
Check for Understanding:
Students will visit the “Precipitation” section to learn more about the water cycle. After listening to the “Precipitation” section, students will watch the Water Cycle movie found under the video icon. This app provides many supports for young learners including read aloud text, many images, videos, and games.

Extended Practice:
Lesson Closing:
For the culminating activity, students will write a post explaining the steps of the water cycle on KidBlog. Students must use the following vocabulary words:
Using the Explain Everything app, students will create a video to accompany their post. Students must include a diagram of the water cycle and utilize their paragraph as the narration. The videos will be shared on student blogs. For more information and tips on getting started with Explain Everything, a robust creation app for mobile devices, click here.
